Légendaire formation britannique, reconnue comme véritable précurseur
du rock progressif, sa musique mêle habilement pop psychédélique,
jazz déjanté et expérimentations instrumentales inédites pour l'époque,
avec aussi un passage plus jazz esthétique.
La marque de fabrique de  Soft Machine  est assurée entre autre par un son d'orgue trafiqué immédiatement identifiable, un saxophone Coltranien,
un jeu de batterie subtil et très particulier, un humour à fleur de peau.
Son chef-d'oeuvre est sans doute " Third " (1970) un des albums les plus importants de ces années 70's, l'album comprend quatre longues suites d'une vingtaine de minutes chacune, bénéficiant de la contribution de nombreux musiciens invités, au premier rang duquel le saxophoniste  Elton Dean .
Un groupe majeur indispensable dans toute discothèque progressive !!!
