Trio monstrueux de heavy progressif ultra technique et sophistiqué,
du progressif aux grands thèmes instrumentaux et conceptuels,
Le style Rush offre un panel de qualités hors du commun :
des musiciens excellents, un chanteur typé, un grand sens de la mélodie,
un sens rythmique alliant richesse et aisance.
Après un album éponyme (1974) très marqué par les premières oeuvres
de Led Zeppelin , Rush a très rapidement su créer sa propre musique. Evidemment marqué par l'empreinte du grand Robert Plant ,
le chant très aigü de Geddy Lee n'était pas non-plus sans rappeler celui
de David Surkamp ( Pavlov's Dog ). Le power-trio canadien proposa un
hard-rock progressif très brut avec de longues pièces alternant passages acoustiques à la guitare douze-cordes, et montées d'une incroyable violence.
" 2112 " (1976) est comparé au " Close To The Edge " de Yes .
Ce style atteint son apogée à la fin des Seventies, avec deux albums incontournables: "A Farewell To Kings" (1977) et "Hemispheres" (1978).
L'année 1982 nous montre une formation transformée: le chant s'est adouci,
les compositions sont plus courtes et les nappes de Moog font leur apparition,
leur musique se fait plus rock FM. Le groupe atteindra les sommets avec
" Grace Under Pressure " puis " Power Windows " en 1985. Rare sont les groupes à pouvoir revendiquer trente ans de carrière sans séparation ni reformation, produisant dans l'intervalle plus d'une vingtaine d'albums,
et réunissant dans ses derniers concerts (2002) plus de 60000 fidèles ?
