The Residents  est un groupe créé en 1966, dont la formation reste un
mystère bien gardé, sortant leurs albums dans l’obscurité la plus désirée,
les membres du groupe ne se sont jamais identifiés par des noms,
n’apparaissant jamais sans leurs déguisements, smoking, haut-de-forme
et masques en forme de globe oculaire géant, et refusant toute interview
aux médias. Tirant leur inspiration d’innovateurs comme  Harry Partch ,
Sun Ra  et  Captain Beefheart , The Residents  embarquent le souffle
de la musique Américaine dans leur vision idiosyncrasique et satirique,
ajoutant leur touche d’électronique, de distorsion, d’avant-jazz,
de symphonie classique et de chant nasal, en éclatant les limites
de la performance théâtrale et du multimédia.
Un groupe obscur, pourtant souvent cité en référence !
