Groupe de rock progressif formé à Londres en 1969, dissout en 1974.
Bien que le groupe soit d'origine britannique, il a rencontré plus de succès
dans les autres pays européens. La formation originale se compose de
Graham Field (orgue), Dave Kaffinetti (claviers),  Steve Gould (basse) et
Mark Ashton (batterie). Rare Bird  est principalement connu pour le single
" Sympathy " qui s'est vendu à un million d'unités dans le monde extrait de
leur 1er album " Rare Bird " sorti en 1969, suivi en 70 de leur second album
" As Your Mind Flies by ". Field  et  Ashton  quittent alors le groupe et sont
remplacés respectivement par  Andy"Seth"Curtis  et  Fred Kelly .
Le groupe signe chez Polydor, trois albums " Epic Forest " (72),
" Somebody's Watching " (73) et " Born again " (74)
qui ne connaissent pas le même succès, le groupe retomba dans l'oubli.
