réalisé après la séparation des  Beatles  (son album précédent, Electronic Sound n'était qu'un album expérimental). C'est le premier triple album d'un artiste solo :
à l'origine, le vinyl comportait deux disques de chansons, alors que le dernier tiers, intitulé « Apple Jam », comporte une série de jams menées sans cérémonie par George Harrison  et ses amis musiciens.
