Dead Can Dance  est un groupe britannico-australien composé
essentiellement de la contralto, Lisa Gerrard (née le 12 avril 1961 à
Melbourne, Australie) et du baryton, Brendan Perry (né le 30 juin 1959
à Londres, Royaume-Uni). Formé en 1981 à Melbourne, le groupe s'est
séparé en 1998 mais s'est reformé en 2005 pour une tournée mondiale.
Dead Can Dance  a été l'un des fers de lance du label discographique indépendant britannique 4AD, avec d'autres groupes tels que Bauhaus,
les Cocteau Twins, les Pixies, This Mortal Coil ou les Throwing Muses.
Les deux membres fondateurs, Brendan Perry et Lisa Gerrard ,
ont développé leur propre univers, évoluant de la cold wave originelle
vers des musiques d'inspiration liturgiques et médiévales aux sonorités incantatoires voire magiques, avant d'aboutir à une musique plus
folklorique aux emprunts nord-africains, sud-américains ou asiatiques.
