~ Antony & The Johnsons ~

D'origine britannique, mais ayant grandi en Californie, Antony Hegarty
fonde Antony and the Johnsons à New York en 2000. Le personnage ambigu
et les tentations expérimentales du leader ont permis au groupe de développer un
univers particulièrement original, au gré des albums. On reconnaît instantanément
le timbre de voix d' Antony Hegarty , cette voix souvent qualifiée de "androgyne",
"angélique" ou "éthérée", et aussi sa technique vocale usant, voire abusant,
des vibrato. Une voix parfois perçue comme une fusion entre celles de
Nina Simone et de Bryan Ferry . Parmi les admirateurs déclarés d' Antony ,
on compte Dido , Philip Glass , Marc Almond , CocoRosie , Lou Reed et
Björk ( ils ont d'ailleurs enregistré une collaboration ensemble en 2006)
ainsi que Boy George , Rufus Wainwright et Devendra Banhart
qui ont tous trois chanté sur I Am a Bird Now. Des enregistrements des plus
raffinés, soutenus par des arrangements néo-romantiques recherchés,
avec piano, guitare acoustique, cordes, bois et cuivres.
Un groupe devenu la coqueluche des critiques spécialisés, Magique !!!
